Concrete Cancer
This occurs when the steel reinforcements inside the concrete slab begin to rust, this causes in turn causes the expansion of the steel which then leads to cracks and deterioration of the concrete. Signs of concrete cancer can be:
- Cracks in the concrete (spalling)
- Rust stains on concrete
- Lifting / rising / bubbling of the concrete surface
Damp Problems (Rising or Lateral)
Damp problems normally present themselves in two forms, rising damp which starts at ground level and works it's way up, occurs when ground water penetrates the structure and lateral damp which is where water finds it's way into a point on the wall and travels horizontally, lateral damp tends to occur in houses with basements/cellars or where the structure sits below ground level.
